Hey friend!
Yesterday I posted a new video which explains the concept of "Post-traumatic Growth" proposed by one of the greatest authors Nassim Taleb.
Here is all the written content I produced (in a nice format) plus some latest thoughts I have had...
✅ Nassim Taleb
Nassim Taleb's work concerns problems of randomness, probability, and uncertainty.
Author of many successful books, including The Black Swan, which The Sunday Times considers one of the 12 most influential books since World War II.
✍️ Quotes
Finding meaning through Pain....
"Why would you look in the darkest places? Because in there you can find what still shines. And if it can shine in the darkest places, you know it is a real light. So, look at the things you don't want to look at. You have to do it." - Jordan Peterson (on London Real Show)
(Once you find the real lights, align your life with them. And you won't lack meaning in your life.)
"The darker the night, the brighter the stars, The deeper the grief, the closer is God!" - Fyodor Dostoevsky
"One must have chaos in oneself to give birth to a dancing star." - Friedrich Nietzsche
📝 Notes
- Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
* Definition: mental health condition that's triggered by a terrifying event.
* High popularity in Medicine...
** Reason: They can sell you a treatment -- Which means they make profits.
- Post-traumatic Growth
Bad circumstances are the fuel for personal Growth.
(to the extent that it does not kill you)
* Low popularity in Medicine
* * Reason: They can't sell you anything!
* This happens because we *need* stressors.
** Different cases:
*** In civilizations....
**** Scarce resources -- Stress -- Progress & Success
*** In companies....
**** Chaos -- Stress -- Progress & Success
**** Best predictor of bankruptcy: Steady earnings
***** Shows no adaptation to the current environment
"One must have chaos in oneself to give birth to a dancing star."
- Friedrich Nietzsche
* The more something fluctuates (without sinking/breaking), the more robust / resistant becomes.
** e.g./ Animal / Human Evolution
🤓 Latest Thoughts
"The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently."
- Friedrich Nietzsche
As Charlie Munger says, you have to be always willing to "kill" your most beloved ideas, if you find new ideas that are closer to the truth. That is to be celebrated, as now you will get a model of your perception that is closer to the actual world. Seek the truth, rather than the ego comfort of being right.
